This German band evolved from Nyrvana Pancake, a group formed in 1971 in Winnenden, near Stuttgart. Nyrvana Pancake released a single psychedelic record before undergoing several lineup changes. By 1974, the band shortened its name, and following a series of successful concerts in 1975, they entered the studio in late summer to record their debut album, Roxy Elephant. The lineup shifted frequently over the years, with Walter Negele remaining the only constant member.

Carpe Diem was a French progressive rock band active throughout the 1970s. Originating in Nice under the name Deis Corpus—a group initially focused on covering Jethro Tull and King Crimson—they eventually transformed into Carpe Diem, embracing the motto “Seize the day!” By 1973, the band had developed a fully original repertoire, blending a variety of progressive rock influences with elements of jazz and classical music. With support from Jean-Pierre Massiera, they secured a record deal two years later. Carpe Diem released two albums before disbanding in 1979.
